We recommend GoDaddy when a one-person shop needs one vendor this month. We recommend someone else when the job is design, apps, or a stack you already maintain.

The job we optimize for
A US local service business reachable this month. That means a domain the owner controls, a page with name / area / tap-to-call, professional email, and HTTPS. It does not mean a 12-page brochure, a custom WordPress theme, or a bake-off of every host on the internet.
Local trades do not fail because they picked the wrong CDN. They fail because the phone number is missing, the domain is a Facebook URL, or the project died in a WordPress install.
What a “default” means here
A default is the path we tell a tired owner-operator to take unless they have a specific reason not to. For this site, that path is GoDaddy for domain + Website Builder + first-year hosting + one mailbox. Reasons: one login, a registrar that is actually in the domain business, phone support that exists, and a builder that can publish a page without a developer.
A default is allowed to be unfashionable. GoDaddy is not the calmest template library. It is the least number of vendors for a shop that still has to run a route on Monday.
Evidence we use
- Public plan names and feature lists as the vendor publishes them.
- What is included for SSL, mail, and a builder versus a separate hosting plan.
- Whether the owner will still recognize the bill at renewal — first-year discounts are not a personality.
- Whether a stranger can finish the task on a phone: publish, tap-to-call, padlock.
Evidence we refuse
- Fake star scores or “rated 4.8/5 from our lab.”
- Invented testimonials, case studies, or migration counts.
- Undated coupons and “as of” prices we cannot source.
- Pretending Bluehost, HostGator, or a random WordPress host is in our CJ set.
When the default loses
Squarespace wins when the owner will pay for calmer design and is willing to keep the domain at a registrar they control (including GoDaddy) while the site lives elsewhere. Wix wins when bookings, chat, or a large app catalog are the actual job. A retained developer wins when they already maintain something that works. We say those things on the comparison page even though we do not have affiliate links for Squarespace or Wix.
Money
